Established in 1972, the University of Limerick is a public university located in Ireland and was granted university status in 1989. Presently, it hosts over 18,000 students, with approximately 3,300 international students annually. UL has received great fame for its co-op program, which means that students receive work experience while they study. Baccalaureate degrees require 4 years with an 8-month paid work experience, attempting to ensure that students are employment-ready at graduation. Taught postgraduate MSc degrees require 1 year full-time, and research degrees range from 1-2 years. Tuition fees, paid by international students, range from €17,500-€25,500 annually for baccalaureate degrees (Eng is most expensive at €21,000-€25,500, Business €17,500-€20,000), with an added €13,000-€21,000 annual rate for taught postgraduate programs.

The University of Limerick (UL) is well-known for its Co-op program, the largest in Europe, where students get paid work experience with over 4,000 employers across 25+ countries. In UL, this takes place in year 2–3 for six to eight months at the undergraduate level and normally attracts 60 ECTS credits. Such a program provides an easier route to employment and enhances employability by up to 15% over and above Ireland’s national average, placing 85 to 97% of graduates in employment within six months. Starting salaries are generally in the range of €35,000–€47,000, going up as high as €50,000+ in areas like engineering and IT. 

University of Limerick Eligibility 

Undergraduate (UG) Requirements:

  • At least 70% in Class 12 overall.

  • 70% in the main subjects like Math or Physics.

  • Math and a second language are checked up to Grade 10.

  • English test: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90, PTE 61, or Duolingo 120.

  • Apply through CAO at ul.ie,/courses; some courses may ask for a short essay or reference.

  • No special tests like UCAT/BMAT for Engineering, Science, or Business.

Postgraduate (PG) Requirements:

  • 4-year Bachelor’s or 3-year Honours degree.

  • Marks should be 55–70% or CGPA 7/10 (higher for tough programs).

  • 3-year non-honours degrees are not accepted.

  • English test: IELTS 6.5 (some need 7.0) or TOEFL 90.

  • Apply online at gps.ul.ie, with transcripts, CV, and a short essay.

  • Some courses may ask for references, work experience, or an interview.
