The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) administers the test. In November

2023, the council introduced a new test format, the GMAT Focus Edition. After January 2024,

the older form of the test was officially discontinued. Thousands of students worldwide are

expected to take the GMAT in the year 2026 as part of the application process for an MBA

course. Choosing the right GMAT exam date is an important first step because it helps you

plan your preparation and MBA application timeline properly.

The test is conducted throughout the year, and this means that the candidate is free to choose

a date for the test as per their requirement. However, it is also important for the candidate to

plan the date of the test carefully, as the dates tend to fill up quickly. If the candidate is aware

of the schedule for the GMAT test, the registration process, and the slot booking, it will be

easier for the candidate to take the test with confidence.

The test is defined as follows:

● A 2-hour 15-minute computer adaptive test

● Specially designed for MBA and business master’s programs

● Accepted by 2,400+ business schools in 110+ countries

It assesses skills essential for business school:

● Logical thinking

● Data understanding

● Quantitative reasoning

● Decision-making ability

It is not a test for any graduate-level exam. It is specifically for business.

What Changed in the GMAT Focus Edition?

Before selecting a GMAT exam date, students should understand the new GMAT Focus

Edition format so they know exactly what to prepare for. Here are the changes in brief, which

you should understand well:

Shorter Test Duration

The test duration is reduced to 2 hours and 15 minutes. Earlier, it was 3.5 hours.

This makes the test less tiring and more focused.

Three Sections Instead of Four

● Quantitative Reasoning Section

● Verbal Reasoning Section

● Data Insights Section

● The Analytical Writing Assessment Section (AWA) was eliminated

● Sentence Correction Section eliminated

This change emphasizes logic more and less on grammar.

New Score Scale

● Total Score Scale: 205-805

● Scores increase in steps of 10

● Each section of the test receives a separate score

Don’t compare your old GMAT scores with your new GMAT Focus scores. The scores are on

different scales.

Better Test Features

● Review and change your answers within a section

● Bookmark your answers

● Better on-screen calculator

● Simpler interface

Overall, the test is more student-friendly.

GMAT Registration Process (Step-by-Step)

Registering for the GMAT Focus Edition is a simple process, but you should fill in the

information carefully. The registration is done entirely online, and you should visit the official

website mba.com, which is operated by the Graduate Management Admission Council.

This is the registration process:

Step 1: Create Your Account on mba.com

First, you should visit mba.com and fill in the registration form to create a profile. You should

fill in basic information such as your full name as mentioned in your passport, email ID, date of

birth, and contact number.

Step 2: Fill in Your Personal and Academic Information

After you fill in the registration form, you should fill in your personal and academic information,

which will include your educational background, graduation year, work experience, and career

goals.

Step 3: Choose Your Exam Type

You should choose one of the two types of exams:

● Test Center GMAT

● Online GMAT (test taken from Home)

Both types of exams will have the same pattern, and you should choose one that you find

convenient to take.

Step 4: Choose Exam Date, Time, and Test Center

You have to enter your city to proceed with this step. For example, if you have chosen the city

to be New Delhi, you will be shown a monthly calendar format. The dates that are available

will be marked (usually in green). You can click on the date to see the time slots that are

available, such as morning or afternoon. The availability of the date depends on the demand.

Step 5: Pay the Exam Fee

Once you have chosen your date and time, you have to proceed to pay the fees. Once you have

made the payment successfully, your exam is confirmed immediately.

Many MBA applicants prefer to book an early GMAT exam date so they have enough time left

for applications, essays, and interviews.

Final Advice for 2026 Aspirants

If you are planning for an MBA admission in 2026, do not delay your GMAT any longer,

assuming you still have plenty of time. This is one common mistake many aspirants who are

seriously planning for an MBA admission often make. The sooner you finish your GMAT, the

better you will be positioned for the entire admission process.

When you finish your GMAT well in advance, you will be relaxed and prepared to shortlist

your colleges, write your essays appropriately, get your recommendation letters on time, and

get your documents ready without any last-minute hassles. Moreover, you will also be well-

positioned in case you want to retake your GMAT, as there is a 16-day gap required between

two GMATs.
